I operate off a waitlist which fills up in first-come-first-serve fashion when my books open. For example, I will post "Books open on Marchtember Oneteenth at 13:00," and the link to book is sent at exactly that time via my newsletter, and I accept around 30-35 submissions before I close the waitlist. So please subscribe to the newsletter at the top of this page in order to get access to booking links. Books are only open to people who are in the NYC area or are able to easily travel to NYC for an appt.
I do not allow this because tattooing is a sacred exchange of art, conversation and intimacy with my clients. While I understand the temptation to do this, especially if you're not going to be in New York City for a while or I won't likely come to your city, this is a strong boundary I set. I believe that if a tattoo design is done by a different person than the original artist, it will look like it's missing its soul. A different artist would approach my tattoos entirely different than I would myself; different gestural motions, line work style, weight, shading, etc. Please do not get a fake Gentle Oriental piece. It is a disservice to me because people might think I did a piece that I actually did not, and a disservice to the client whom I promise a unique design to.
Flash are designs that tattoo artists pre-draw, that are chosen by clients. It's similar to buying an art piece from an artist rather than commissioning them to create something specific that you want. I add to my flash design library every month or so, so there is always plenty to choose from for appointments. *Each flash is only done once and non-repeatable, so it is unique to the person who receives it. If the flash you want is taken already, I might be open to drawing a modified version of it if I'm interested, so just ask first.
Unless otherwise specified, Gentle Oriental is a primarily flash-based tattoo practice. Once in a while I will specifically announce if I am taking custom tattoo requests and I'll drop information about submitting an inquiry about it.
I do not tattoo other artists' design concepts or styles. For a custom inquiry, I do accept reference or inspo photos using other artists' work, but do not expect an exact copy.
Yes, I do plan to travel and guest at shops around the world one day. I have already made trips to California for example. Subscribe to the newsletter to get updates about travels!
Visitor's form is linked at the top of the page, but if you cannot open it that means I am not currently taking visitors because I'm already at capacity over the next few months. Filling out the form does not guarantee an appointment, it just allows me to see if I can fill up the rare empty appointment spaces with visitor requests if I happen to have any.
